Tantalus School Policies

Picture
1.  Policy on drug paraphernalia and/or alcohol and/or drugs in school and students who are intoxicated by being under the influence of either drugs or alcohol in school – parents will be called and the student suspended immediately for 10 days.

2. Policy on smoking on school grounds – there is a territorial law that forbids people from smoking on government land or near government buildings.  The school is on government land and is a government building.  Therefore, students who are caught smoking on school grounds will be given 3 verbal warnings.  With the 3rd verbal warning comes a call to the parent for a meeting.  After this, should the student insist on breaking the law, they will be suspended for 10 days.  Should they insist on continuing smoking on school grounds, further action will be taken.
Please know that smoking is not permitted with children under the age of 18.

3.Weapons on school property or malicious threats given on school property will mean an automatic suspension with a call home to parents and the RCMP.

4. In light of a weapon incident on school grounds, we have decided to do random locker searches each month.  We know that this event featured threatening and intimidating behaviour, and we suspect that there may have been threats and intimidation of other students.  This intimidation may have included pressure to store or hide dangerous or objectionable material.  In order to keep illegal materials out of school, random locker searches each month will facilitate this.

We will be initiating these policies immediately.  I have met with staff and students in the grade 7 to 12 range.  They are aware of these policies and the consequences associated with them.

Please feel free to contact me here at the school should you have any questions or comments.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Sincerely,

Mrs. Morgan Douglas-Alexander
Principal
